Atlas Copco Brings Stage V Compliance To All But Two Of Its DrillAir Compressors

    Posted On: August 2, 2019

Most Atlas Copco DrillAir portable compressors now meet EU Stage V emissions standards, thanks to new Scania diesel engines. Models V39 and Y35 will become Stage V-compliant later on, the company says. (Photo courtesy of Atlas Copco.)

Atlas Copco has made most of its DrillAir portable compressor line compliant with EU Stage V emissions standards, the company says. The family of high-pressure machines also comes with the AirXpert 2.0 performance management system and a new Xc4004 Smart Air compressor controller.

“Our unique DrillAir product portfolio is greatly appreciated by many drillers, who not only rely on our compressor’s reliability, but have also become accustomed to their outstanding performance and total cost of ownership,” says Atlas Copco VP of Marketing, Portable Air Division, Hendrik Timmermans. “The range has now been further enhanced with the addition of Stage V-compliant engines, Xc4004, and AirXpert 2.0, enabling operators to finish jobs in record time.”

    Emissions Standards Compliance

Most of the DrillAir range now comes with Stage V-compliant diesel engines made by Scania, Atlas Copco says. The compressor line, whose models are compact enough to fit on the same truck as a drill rig in most cases, enjoys an efficiency boost of 3 to 4.5% after the change. Models V21 and H23 have received an additional 2% gain in efficiency, owing to a new air element.

Two exceptions to the above news are DrillAir models Y35 and V39, which will be made Stage V-compliant later on. The Y35, a rental company favorite, has Atlas Copco’s XPR (Extended Pressure Range) system to increase its pressure band from 15 to 35 bar.

    Control & Management

The compressors’ AirXpert 2.0 performance management system can increase flow, or stabilize flow or pressure, in order to maximize productivity. AirXpert is more reliable now, Atlas Copco says, thanks to the DrillAir line’s IP67-rated motors.

Another IP67-rated component is the new Xc4004 Smart Air controller with OilXpert oil temperature monitoring. The operator can keep an eye on both pressure and flow on its 7-inch display. The Xc4004 also lets the operator attach a second screen to a drill rig to remotely control the compressor’s air feed.

    C3 Tough

Another new perk of the DrillAir family is a C3-certified canopy with triple-layer corrosion protection. The manufacturer subjected the canopy to a 460 hours salt spray test to obtain the certification.
