    The Versa-Drill V-140X rig supports 20-foot (6.1-meter) lengths of drill rod with 3-, 3.5-, or 4.5-inch (76-, 89-, or 102-millimeter) diameters. (Photo courtesy of Versa-Drill.)

Versa-Drill’s V-140X mounted drilling rig is engineered for water well and geothermal drilling as well as air rotary, cathodic protection, and exploration drilling tasks. The versatile rig supplies 40,000 pounds (178 kilonewtons) of pullback power and 22,100 lbs (98 kN) of pulldown to get the job done with ease.

    Recent Display Upgrades

Built for light weight, like Versa-Drill’s V-125X, the V-140X has a 180-degree swing and an extendable jib arm. An incline sensor warns the operator audibly and visually on all display screens if the derrick begins to tilt during operation.

The drill’s touchscreen can present hour meters for the mud pump and tophead rotation in addition to the traditional PTO and optional compressor hours readings. The display can also show the total downhole string weight, a digital user’s manual, and important information from digital transducers located around the drill assembly.

    Versa-Drill V-140X Specifications

Versa-Drill mounts the V-140X on a 6x6 Peterbilt 548 carrier with a 350-horsepower (261-kilowatt) PACCAR PX-9 engine and an Allison automatic transmission. The drill uses a variable 3-speed, variable-torque top head with 26 feet (7.9 meters) of stroke. The top head ranges from 2,242 pounds-foot force (9.97 kiloNewtons) of torque at 250 rpm to 8,100 lbf-ft at 125 rpm.

The V-140X rig supports 20-foot (6.1-meter) lengths of drill rod with 3-, 3.5-, or 4.5-inch (76-, 89-, or 102-millimeter) diameters, using an 11- to 17-rod carousel or a 9- to 18-rod box. The drill has an 18-in (457-mm) centralizer table that can be reduced to 13.25 in (337 mm) with bushings. It also has a Marmon-Herrington transfer case with a Safe Shift control system.

Versa-Drill offers a wide range of options for the V-140X including winches, air compressors, mud pumps, the Mud Manager solids control system, and many more.
